Medical Provider Network Information

What is an MPN? An MPN is a network or group of health care providers established by insurance carriers or self-insured employers that have been approved by the Division of Workers' Compensation to provide care for injured workers. MPNs are required to meet access to care requirements in order to be approved. Additional criteria for approval includes; economic profiling policy, continuity of care and transfer of care policies, as well as a second and third opinion process if the injured worker disputes the diagnosis or treatment plan of the treating MPN providers.

The MPN will be delivered through Blue Cross of California's Medical Provider Network. Blue Cross of California is committed to providing the most comprehensive Medical Provider Network (MPN) in the industry treating injured workers throughout the State of California.

What are the advantages of an MPN? Prior to the establishment of MPNs, the employers and insurance carriers had 30 days of medical control. With an MPN, they now have medical control for the life of the claim. Additionally, MPNs are expected to generate cost savings by keeping the treatment within the network.

To utilize the Medical Provider Network effectively, there are several requirements of the employer:

  • Distribute the "Covered Employee Notification of Rights Materials" packet to all employees and have each employee sign and date the "Employee Confirmation of Receipt of Medical Provider Network (MPN) Written Notification" form upon receipt of the packet. This signed employee form must be kept in the personnel file of each employee and a copy be made available upon request.
  • Policyholder will then notify TECIS Insurance Services, LLC. in writing, of the date when you have notified all employees regarding MPN participation. The MPN cannot become active until 30 days from the date employers notify their employees.

The goal is to ensure that all have received and understand the new MPN and that the employees have the information they need.
